Starting School at St. Peter’s CE Primary Academy: What to Expect

We’re delighted to welcome you and your child to St. Peter’s CE Primary Academy! Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to ensure the transition is smooth, supportive, and full of joy. Here's a summary of what you can expect in the lead-up to your child joining us in Reception:

Induction Information
We’ll publish an induction timetable on our website and send out a welcome letter outlining everything you need to know about the transition to school. Rough dates are detailed below. More information will follow.

Getting to Know Your Child
We’ll begin contacting nurseries and pre-schools to learn more about each child joining us. This helps us understand their strengths, interests, and any additional needs. Our SEN team will also carry out visits where needed to ensure the right support is in place from the start.

Open Evening
We invite all new families to join us for an open evening where you can meet the staff, explore the school, and hear more about life at St. Peter’s. Members of our leadership team, teaching staff, and PTA will be on hand to answer your questions and help you feel part of the community. This will take place in June.

Stay and Play Sessions
We’ll host small group ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in our Reception classroom. These are a lovely way for your child to explore their new learning environment while you get to know the team. Booking details will be shared closer to the time. These will take place in June/July.

Bump-Up Afternoon
As part of our whole-school transition day, your child will spend time in their new classroom with their new teachers, helping to build confidence and excitement ahead of September. Again, this will take place in June/July

Home Visits
We’ll arrange a short visit to your home so your child can meet a familiar face from school in a place where they feel most comfortable. These visits help to build trust and lay the foundations for a strong partnership between home and school.

We can’t wait to begin this journey with you. If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone from the team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Welcome to St. Peter’s!

Mr Martindale (Executive Headteacher) and Mrs Morris (Head of School)
