  • EYFS transition 2026

    Welcome to St. Peter's

We are delighted that you have chosen St. Peter’s CE Primary Academy for your child. Our whole staff team is very much looking forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you into our school community, where we encourage every child to live out our motto: “Whatever you do; work at it with all your heart.”

We know that starting school can bring a wide range of emotions for children, and for parents too! The transition programme we have planned (outlined below) is designed to support your child every step of the way, helping to build confidence and ease any worries or uncertainties.

Please be reassured that we are committed to making this transition as smooth, positive and welcoming as possible for all our new children.

Parents’ Information Briefing- Thursday 18th June from 6-7:30pm

This will be a lovely opportunity to meet key members of our team, including our EYFS staff, and begin getting to know St Peter’s. The session will be relaxed and welcoming, giving you an insight into school life, as well as plenty of time to ask any questions you may have. During the evening, you will:

    • Receive your information pack and new starter forms
    • Enjoy a tour of the school, including the EYFS classrooms

If you are unable to attend, please don’t worry—the PowerPoint presentation from the evening will be shared on our website so you won’t miss any key information.

Please enter the school via the gates on Xanten Way (next to the playground) or through our main reception (accessible via the school car-park gates.) Please note that parking on the school site is not permitted. We would be very grateful if you could confirm your attendance by contacting the school office at office@stpeters.dsat.org.uk. We are really looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the St Peter’s community.

Stay and Play- Monday 29th June between 12:45 and 2:30pm

We would like to invite our new Reception children in on Monday 29th June for a Stay and Play session. Children and parents will be able to spend 45 minutes in the classroom enjoying the environment and helping the children to feel settled ready for their first full day in September.

We will be offering two Stay and Play sessions and would invite parents to choose one. The first will be from 12.45 - 1.30pm and the other from 1.45 - 2.30pm. You should arrive at the gates to our reception classrooms (at the bottom of our car park) at the start of your session.

We would be very grateful if you could contact the school office to confirm which session you will be attending.

Leave and Play- Monday 13th July

Children are invited to spend 45 minutes in the classroom without parents. You should arrive at the gates to our reception classrooms (at the bottom of our car park) at 12.45pm on Monday 13th July. Children can then be picked up at 1.30pm and a waiting area in the hall will be provided.

During this time, you will be hosted by our Family Liaison Officer, Beth Evans, who is always available to support parents and, on this occasion, will be running a ‘new-to-you’ uniform sale. It is also an opportunity to ask questions of school staff, have a cup of tea and meet one another!

    Home Visits

All families will be offered the opportunity to book a home visit. However, as I’m sure you can appreciate, with 60 children across both classes, scheduling these visits can be challenging.

We would therefore kindly ask that home visits are prioritised for children with additional needs (including SEND) or where parents have specific concerns about their child’s transition into EYFS.

Home visits will take place during July and will be carried out by our teaching team. Sign-up sheets will be available at the events listed above.

    Your next steps:

Please email the school office office@stpeters.dsat.org.uk to confirm your attendance at the Parent briefing,  one of the Stay and Play sessions and Leave and play sessions.
