Now in its second year at St. Peter’s CE Primary Academy, the EMTAS Young Interpreter Scheme helps pupils who are new to our school and learning English feel welcome and settle in.

Our Young Interpreters are trained to support other pupils as they get to know the school. They might show a new pupil around, help them understand everyday routines or invite them to join a game at lunchtime. Sometimes, having a familiar face to look out for in the playground can make all the difference.

Children can take part whether they speak one language or several. Through the scheme, they learn to communicate in different ways, using pictures, gestures and demonstrations to help others understand and join in.

We’re proud of the care our Young Interpreters show. They play an important part in helping new pupils feel that they belong at St. Peter’s from their first day.
