At St Peter’s, enrichment is central to the school’s long-held ambition to develop good people who make a positive difference to their community. The school’s offer is designed to be both broad and purposeful, providing children with opportunities to discover their talents, develop confidence and experience success beyond the academic curriculum.
Civic engagement and pupil leadership are embedded throughout school life. Pupil Parliament, house debates, pupil-led parents’ evenings, leadership responsibilities, fundraising and community action give children a genuine voice and enable them to see that their decisions can have a positive impact. Recent pupil-led work in response to the crisis in Nepal demonstrates how children are encouraged to connect social justice with meaningful action.
Children’s horizons are broadened through Aspiration Days, secondary school, university visits, STEM experiences, visitors and the St Peter’s Graduate Scheme. Weekly talk assemblies, public speaking and debating help pupils develop the confidence and communication skills needed to participate fully in school and later life. Enterprise opportunities, including Year 6 market stalls, allow pupils to apply teamwork, creativity and financial understanding in practical contexts.
The school also provides regular opportunities across arts, culture, sport and outdoor learning. These include productions, performance opportunities, Sports Week, Art Week, sports competitions, a range of exciting after-school clubs and opportunities to represent the school across a range of different events. Weekly Forest School provision for EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Year 3 helps children develop independence, resilience and an appreciation of the natural world.
St Peter’s is committed to ensuring that enrichment is accessible to all. Free or subsidised opportunities, targeted aspiration work and appropriate adjustments help disadvantaged pupils and children with SEND participate fully. The school works with universities, charities, sports providers, community organisations and external visitors to extend the range and quality of experiences available.
Participation and achievement are celebrated through assemblies, certificates, ClassDojo, displays and the school’s wider communication with families. The school believes that its enrichment offer supports children to leave St Peter’s as confident, articulate and compassionate young people, equipped with the experiences, aspirations and character needed to contribute positively to the world around them.
